Applications

Since I know we all need to get our applications done as soon as possible, I'm hoping this will work like the audition dates thread. When you know of an application that is made available, post the school on here. Since we're not allowed to link websites, I guess we will have to go to the site on our own, but at least the name will help.

Right now, OCU, Ithaca, and Northern Colorado have applications out.
Wagner and Emerson's applications still say 2005, so I'm assuming those are for last year.
Irvine and UCLA's application is not released until October 1st, if anyone is wondering about those.

Elons' Application is also available

i would think 2005 would be for fall, 05. last fall would have been 2004.

Correction: On Wagner's page, their paper application is for last year. However, they also use the common app, and that's out for 2006. I think the performing arts supplement part is still old though.

For anyone else who is applying to Ithaca, I have a question: Since they do early decision there, rather than early action, are we still supposed to turn our apps in early for musical theatre auditions and such, and just make sure it says that it isn't early decision? Or do we have to wait?

Also, when you put theatre under activities on an application, do you just say "Theatre - however many years you've been doing it" or do you break it up into school and community, or what?

beastar:

I have been told that for the activities portion of the apps, to just list out generic theatre activities (Drama Club, 4 yrs, 20 hrs/10 weeks; Spring Musical, 4 yrs, 30 hrs/4 weeks, etc...) along with all of my other activities (field hockey, choir, blah blah). But in addition, since I'm applying to the selective theatre programs at all but 2 schools, I'm going to have my college counselor send my actual Theatrical Resume in along with my recs & transcript

I'm going to Ithaca in the fall, and last year I had all of my applications filled out and turned in by mid-November. Just mark the regular decision space and not early decision.

nyu is up...

be a star - I'll probably repeat something here that I've posted before, but it is important not to make any general assumptions about all schools, such as that all schools want the applications right away. They are across the board. We're not looking at some of the ones you mentioned, but I'll give you some examples. You will want to contact the school if the details are not spelled out clearly enough on the web, but you may want to do a detailed schedule or calendar for each school's due dates because they are all different. I have asked all the school admissions offices to put my son on a mailing list for a packet when they are published. We only have about half of them right now.

My examples - Ithaca - call for audition appointment. They recommended to me that we try to get our application in by about the time we are going for the audition (in fall), but we will show regular decision as actor 456 mentioned. The forms for Ithaca are really not due until a Feb. due date, but if you get them in at about the time of fall audition, they can let you know of acceptance under a rolling admissions policy.

Point Park wants all admissions paperwork in a month before the audition date.

CMU wants all applications in by 12/1. I don't know when we will be able to schedule their auditions. NYU for regular decision is 1/15, if I'm remembering correctly. You would go online at a specified date to request your audition - application not required (if regular decision, 11/1 for NYC dates and 12/1 for other city dates). Syracuse - when dates are ready, you can call to schedule a fall audition (dates not yet finalized, but they have some tentative early dates - once final, later summer, you can call to schedule). Syracuse doesn't want application until 1/1 even if you go in the fall, and they told me that all who audition, even in fall, won't be notified until spring.

Michigan - the one that seems so far to require the very most paperwork - they want everything in by a specified date (9/15 for fall audition, 11/1 for Jan., etc - see web site). You have to go through the admissions evaluation before being invited to audition.

We are going to try to apply to some others in the summer or very early fall, but in all of these cases you can do paperwork or online requests to get audition date without having done the admissions papers: OCU, Elon, and BW.

As you can see, everyone has different requirements. We are trying to get all of this organized at our house - overwhelming!

A word of advice regarding deadlines - which I think has already been posted on other threads, but which seems really relevant here, too - make SURE you check not just the application deadlines but the deadlines by which you need to apply in order to be considered for scholarship!!!! One of my most talented students decided kind of last-minute to audition at UM because he had his heart set on another program. He made the deadline for application but missed the merit award deadline - and, of course, ended up LOVING UM even more than his initial first choice school, got into both, and is now a UM MT. After his first year at UM he received scholarships from the School of Music for his MT work, but he missed out on some BIG academic scholarships for which he would also have qualified coming out of high school.

So the moral is - if you are AT ALL considering a school, check ALL deadlines and get the applications in on time for scholarship consideration!!!

For Oklahoma City University, 2006 applications are available. You can get an application by visiting <a href="http://www.tgimatocu.com%5B/url%5D">www.tgimatocu.com</a>, or by calling 1-800-633-7242 extension one...M-F 8A-P. You can also fill out an app on-line but there is a charge for that.

You can reserve an music audition slot before you submit an application. You can arrange a music audition by calling 1-800-633-7242..extension 5980.

Good luck!

noccadad, i emailed you on the summer program thread. it seems to me that our daughters must have been at ocu at the same music camp. was it the classical music camp?

Are you sure NYU is up? I checked last night & the aps for Fall 2006 couldn't be accessed. Isn't that the one seniors need to fill out? I believe it said to check back in August for that one, although there was a link for the common ap.

Razorback,
Yes, she was at the classical "art song" voice intensive for 1 week. Initials LS. Looking forward to corresponding and meeting you through this process. Of course we had our first storm here in Louisiana last night and looking toward another. Thanks for your interest!

melsmom:

i printed out the nyu app and filled it out, but they wont send paper apps to your house until august...you can download the adobe file and print it out, and start on the essays and personal statements and such

heres the link
<a href="http://admissions.nyu.edu/application_resources.php%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.nyu.edu/application_resources.php</a></p>

and click on the 2006 admission packet and adobe should pop up with the app for printing

Hartt has a downloadable paper app available, but I'm not sure it's this year's, because their online app is still for last year... Should I just wait?

And will Wagner and/or Ithaca frown on me using the common app?

noccadad - I'd love to be in touch with you, but I can't get to your e-mail or private messages. We live in a nearby state and are looking to audition at some of the same programs as you next year. Send me an e-mail if you get a chance! We were so happy to hear of your D's good experience at OCU's one week because we are heading there next week for 3 weeks!

Let me know where you live in Louisiana. I have relatives from there and close relatives (husband & sister) who went to college there. Hope you survive the storms!

Just wondering if anyone has looked at the 2006 App for OCU - Their spot for SAT's just states verbal & math. How do we break the total down?

Thanks

Well, no matter if you took the new or old test, the score was still divided into three sub-categories (for the new, at least). For math it is still math, and for verbal, it is critical reading, and you get to ignore the writing section, which at least for me is a very good thing. You actually might be able to put it as an SAT II, but I'm not sure about that.

Lexismom - I agree with star - when they only ask for the 2 parts, you put the 2 historic ones and ignore the writing component.
