I applied over the summer and got rejected by the main campus, however was admitted to the Bradford campus. I'm REALLY interested in going to Pitt (main campus) and I know was rejected due to my low GPA (2.8 weighted and 1970 SAT). I'm working hard senior year to improve my grades (hope to get mostly A's) and retaking the SAT again this October (hopefully getting 2000+)

My question is can I contact the Admissions Officer about reapplying with my midyear grades + new SAT like the applicants that were deferred? I know once you get reject early you can't reapply however I'm VERY interested in Pitt and I know there will be a significant change (GPA + SAT) wise in my application to make them reconsider.

Oh also I'm OOS from Virginia but Go Steelers!

I don’t know what Admissions will say, but I want to point out that it is basically going to be impossible to raise your GPA to within a good number for Pitt Admissions. The average GPA of acceptance last year was a 3.97. The SAT sections really need to be 600+ each for Math and CR.

My point is you may be able to raise your grades and SAT some, but you’re starting stats are so low comparatively that i don’t think admissions is going to change their mind. You weren’t on the cusp of getting in, you were in the far left field.

What are your career goals? Could you start out at Pitt Bradford and then after 2 years and raising GPA transfer to Pitt main?
Also are there more affordable options for you in VA?

What are your individual scores for SAT critical reading, math, and writing? I agree that you really need to have a 3.5+ GPA to be reasonably competitive for Pitt’s main campus. If you’re below that, it’s almost virtually impossible regardless of your test score because the GPA seems to be the most important thing when they consider people for admission.

Again I’m retaking it this month and hope to raise my scores. Also I wanted to mention that my low GPA is mostly due to my sophomore year grades. All the other years I’ve had something above a 3.3

@mommdc There definitely are more affordable schools in Virginia but I’m really interested in going to pitt.

Something I learned that is very important in your case is to use your application essay to explain what may have happened in your sophomore year to cause those low grades. Sometimes they will be more forgiving of the grades if there is some event that negatively impacted you that year. Also, Pitt looks for an upward grade trend, which a lot of people have said is important to them.

Your scores are actually pretty good as they are for basic admission to the main campus. They pretty much look for above a 600 in every section, which you already have. If your GPA would have been above a 3.5, I think you would have gotten in. If your GPA is going to still end up being around a 3.0 (which I’m guessing it will be because it can’t be brought up much more than that in 1 year) then I’m not sure they will reconsider unless you have a very solid explanation as to why you received low grades your sophomore year.
