Hi Everyone,
I’m currently a 1st year at Northeastern University in the business school here (ranked top 20 for undergrad).
I’m going to attempt to transfer to Cornell for the fall of my Junior year and I was wondering what type of GPA / other things I would need to shoot for in order to be a competitive applicant.
Thanks so much!
Hi, I previously transferred into AEM. It is an absolutely fabulous program and coming here is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have a bit of advice to offer on this topic. I don’t want to discourage you, but AEM offers many transfer agreements to high school seniors and they also have relationships with local community colleges making your job a bit more difficult (but still very doable!!). That being said, I have MANY transfer friends who came from schools similar to yours.
GPA should definitely be as close to 4.0 as possible. Because it is an “Applied Economics” program, make sure your Econ/science/math classes are A’s…if you have that, a B/B+ in say a history/English that definitely won’t keep you from getting in. I really don’t think SATs or ACTs matter all too much especially as a junior. Cornell will also take into account that you attend a very rigorous school.
What makes Cornell/CALS so special is their focus on finding students who will really shine in the program they are applying for. More than anything, I recommend conveying to the admissions committee why YOU are a good fit for the Dyson School. Don’t be afraid to show your passion for Econ/business in your application essay and directly reference steps you have taken to achieving a career in Econ/business (they don’t have to be overly impressive things, just show commitment to the path). If you are interested in agriculture, the environment, or any form of biological science do no hesitate to mention that because after all the program is in CALS!
