Applied ED Did not know about 1st Marking period Grades

So I thought I had all of my materials in for Early Decision, and I couldn't check my application status because I didn't have my SUID.

I got my SUID in the mail on December 1st, but I didn't realize it had the ID number on it till today. I went online today (December 05) and saw that they needed my 1st marking period grades for Early Decision. If I have my counselor send them in tomorrow (December 06) will they still be able to review my application properly?

I find this to be really unfair, because I checked all over the Syracuse Website and never saw anything about 1st marking period grades being required. I also didn't have the ability to figure out it was missing until the 1st of december, because I didn't get my SUID until then.

Will they still be able to review my application normally if I send in my 1st marking period grades tomorrow? Are the 1st marking period grades actually required for Early Decision?

Why don’t you ask your guidance counselor to FAX a copy to the Syracuse Admission’s office?
Have them FAX one copy (SU will get it immediately) and send an official hardcopy via post office. This way, they’ll have the FAX copy immediately on hand in case they start reviewing applications now. If they decide that they need an official hardcopy to make a decision, it will be on it’s way via the mail.

It may be a good idea to also call or email them and let them know that the grades are on their way.

Alright I’ll do exactly as you said today during school.

Do you think they will still be able to accept my application if I do everything you stated?

Please let me know! Thank you!

You will have to call them and get that answer directly from them. My guess is that it won’t be a problem.

I am in the EXACT same boat as you. I had ne clue they need first marking period grades until I looked at my myslice account but I didn’t get my SUID in the mail until Saturday. I was just like…“I’ts the weekend, what am I supposed to do?” My guidance cousilor just posted them online today. I don’t know how soon they’ll see that my grades are posted becuase I don’t know how log that status has even been there. Guess I’ll have to wait and see but this anticipation is getting to me. I didnt apply early so I could wait unit the RDs get their decision.

^^ if you didn’t apply ED, you need to send mid-year report, not first marking period grades…not sure if that’s what you mean or if your last sentence was sarcasm

ephenst I called them and they said it would be fine if they are sent in today/yesterday.

They probably will accept them for a few more days too.

@rodney I did not apply ED. I just applied early with the hope that I would get an early decision without being binded by “Early Decision”. And that wasn’t sarcasm. As for the midyear grades, that would make sense but my status says first marking period grades.

@vijpenguin93 thanks even though this won’t affect me nearly as much as it’ll affect you.

ephenst: interesting; you may want to call an dfind out why they asked for them; SU does not release RD any earlier than around March 15th or so…

You have a point. I’ll look at my common app. I may have accidentally applied for ED, although I doubt it. It would be safe to check just in case.

To have applied Ed you, your parents and your school would have had to sign an Ed form

Well I have definitely NOT applied ED

My understanding is that the ONLY way Syracuse will accept your first marking period grades is EITHER through COMMONAPP submitted by your counselor or US MAIL send DIRECTLY from your school’s transcript office. I am not aware if this will delay your application, but you should contact the admissions office by phone immediately to be sure.

Hi VIJPenguin: Dd you hear anything from your school or Syracuse regarding your first marking period grades? How did things turn out for you?

Everyone told me I would be fine, because most students don’t send there marking period grades in till about early december. I was actually accepted today as well! (=

My son applied RD, but very early (everything in by Oct 5) and they mailed a letter after several weeks (probably managing all the ED stuff) with the Syr ID number and stuff for My slice. Around the same time a letter came requesting FIRST QUARTER grades…remember this is an RD candidate. The counselor sent them immediately (3 weeks ago) but today on MY SLICE it says under “outstanding items” - 1st marketing period grades. I wonder what’s with that?

I’m in the same boat I am also RD and sent my first marking period grades about a month ago. Still it says it’s missing on myslice so I emailed admissions and all they said was that they might have it but it hasn’t been put into the system yet.

I received my SUID months ago but was stupid enough to not look at my account now and to be horrified that they require 1st marking period grades. It is already 2 days past the RD deadline.

I called them though and they said it is fine and that I should submit it as soon as possible. Thankfully I decided to check my Syracuse account before it was too late!

This is obviously a re-occuring problem so I don’t understand why they do not state it on the common app or on their website…
