Applied Math: Useful/Courses

Hi all,

Intended applied math major here. I switched out from a non-physical sciences major, so I am trying to get a better understanding of the major and the community around it! Just wondering, what are some useful courses to take along with the 5 main major requirements (namely 110, 113, 104, 128A, 185)? Any ideas on which ones are interesting to take/applicable for jobs in the field? I was thinking of doing a cluster in statistics, but concepts in engineering, physics, and CS are also interesting.

Looking at the website: https://math.berkeley.edu/programs/undergraduate/major/applied

Would any of you consider any of these more employable that the other? Of course these are just course suggestions and I don’t want to seem shallow, but considering what may be effective in being used in the workforce as an applied math graduate, do you guys have any recommendations on classes or clusters that work? Also, any general recommendations on fun upper div math/related courses?

Third kinda question: what are some great organizations you have been a part of? Such as research for applied math majors, internship/fellowships, and the community of mathematics majors, what is that like at Cal?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot and go bears!

For employability, what kind of work do you envision after graduation?

The above indicate that a fair number of applied math graduates go into finance or actuarial work. Whether this is of interest to you is up to you. Some others go into computer software.
