Applied Math

I have some questions for applied math: what exactly does it do, how complicated does the math get in terms of levels, i.g. calc, linear algebra, how is the course load? I plan on applying to northwestern undergrad and taking it along with a business interest. If anyone could answer any of the 3 questions i am deeply thankful.

Applied math is a broad discipline. Check out [Prospective Undergraduate Students](Welcome to Applied Mathematics | Applied Mathematics | University of Waterloo) for some information about possible career options.

Note that applied math resides in the engineering school, not arts and sciences school like many others. This suggests a stronger orientation/focus in physical/engineering system and closer ties to other engineering disciplines.

FYI, many biz-oriented students major in industrial engineering and managment sciences. [Northwestern University - Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences](http://www.iems.northwestern.edu/)
