Friend wants to know what the best schools for applied mathematics are in the midwest.

Wisconsin, Michigan, Chicago, Minnesota

Washington U St Louis

In no particular order:

Northwestern University
University of Chicago
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
University of Wisconsin-Madison

i am at michigan now, and math here sucks thus far.

Anonymous, at the Freshman, and even Sophomore levels, Math at most top programs (and Michigan has a top 10 Math department) is going to be disapointing. But once you get to you intermediate and advanced level math classes, you are going to be pleased with the course selection and quality of instruction.
