Applied Mathematics VERSUS Mathematics

The applied math major is located in the engineering school whereas the math major is located in the arts and science school.

I'm looking to become an actuary or go into the financial/business/statistics field.
Which major would give me the best foundation in these fields. In addition, what major would look best?

If I choose Applied Mathematics, my concentration would be in economics.
If I choose Mathematics, I would double major with economics.

Exams are what matter for actuarial work. Both of those majors sound fine if you cover the necessary material.

Sounds like you would prefer applied math, as it looks like you like using math for real world applications.

Some of the “pure math” classes have little real world applications that would help you with business applications. They would help you if you plan to be a scientist/mathematician, but no so much in the real world.

Unless you plan to work and deal with the sciences/engineering, choose the regular Mathematics major.

Absolutely do applied math. A regular mathematics major is for those who wish to do teaching/research.
