Applied RD. Think I'll get in?

White female from Hampton Roads, VA.

Full IB: HLs Math, Bio, English, History (core basically), SLs SocAnthro. Also AP French (doesn’t offer IB). 1st sem. ToK (Philosophy, an IB course), 2nd sem. Creative Writing (only a 4.0, but I like to write. Took it for fun, not an easy A.)
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.52 W. Hoping it will go UP for Midyear report! Never gotten a B. (Parents’ fault at first; now mine. Darn motivation! ^_^)
Rank: 2/377 (shared w/Asian/Caucasian girl accepted to MIT)
SATs: (best combined) 800 CR/780 M/800 W, 12 pts essay. (dang math!)
SAT IIs: took French Reading, Biology E, and Eng. Lit. Expect at least 650, 750, 750 (Dear Lord I hope so) but will repost Dec. 19 when I receive them.
AP Tests: U.S. Gov self-study (5), Comp. Pol (5), Psychology (5) Grade 10
Eng. Lang self-study (5), U.S. History (5), Calc BC + AB subscore (5) Grade 11. Will take Biology, French, and European History. (Will have like 1 year of credit if I get in! Cool!)
IB SLs taken: 5 Art Option B (workbook)–ick, didn’t have enough stuff
7 French.

Essays: Chose the “favorite word” essay as well as “literary work that shocked you.” It’s the only one I still like. Used a pun in one (subject was Hamlet–does that make it OK?) and they have some cliches. Don’t like them any more but the middle of the Hamlet one is not bad.
Teacher recs: Awesome. English teacher loves me and writes WELL!
Counselor rec: Don’t know.
Hooks: None I can really think of…was nominated my school’s Jefferson Scholar??? Does that count?

ECs: I now believe I put in way too many. Things I should have put in and been more selective:

museum volunteer (“planting”) 11-12

Relay for Life (did not note mother had cancer here, but it is in my Jeff. Scholar app–will they look at that at the same time?) 9-12

People to People Student Ambassador (summer 10)

Trifecta of Honor Societies: French (12), Math (11-12, now VP), Nat’l (11-12)

play classical piano

Yearbook assistant editor (12)

Student Government (sec 10, rep 11 [wasn’t elected–:-(], sec 12)

I wish there were some way they could see your participation in activities and your confidence rise the same way they could see GPA rise on the transcript.

Awards: also should’ve been more selective

1st place regional science fair (10)

Stockholm Jr. Water Prize Central VA region state science fair (10)

AP Scholar w/Distinction (in 11)

Nat’l Merit Semi-finalist (hope to be finalist)–12 technically

Outstanding Social Studies Student (Grades 9 and 11)

Apparently I also have the highest…composite ranking (rank + ECs???) of anyone in my school…but there will be quite a few people applying from my school. My counselor thinks I’m in. I’m not so sure.

What say you?

i just dont see anyway that you wouldn't get in.... i would have expected you to get in from from out-of-state

There are no certainties in life, but your credentials are very strong. My guess is that you will be in. I would even say that you have an outside shot at Echols.

OK, New Info for those SAT IIs:

French: predicted correctly! 650 exact! (darn stupid entire section...ugh! It's UGLY! Icky 6!)
Biology E: 770
English Lit: 800!!! Yes! Hopefully that fits w/the "I love English!!!" ^_^

Ok...NOW what do you think?

youre in ... you didnt even have to post your SAT2 results :/

Ravenna, you can probably safely consider UVA a safety, as I did. You will get in, and you'll have a great shot at being named an Echols Scholar. You'll also probably get in at a number of other excellent schools, but I encourage you to strongly consider UVA this spring. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
