Applied to an Internship. Follow up?

I applied for a paid summer internship in the education field around May 5.Supposedly, the last day to apply is May 30. It’s driving me crazy because I really want this internship and I want to know if I got it. I think I’m qualified. But I also want to know b/c if I get it, no summer school, if I don’t, then I go to summer school.

Anyway, I was thinking of following up today but I’m clueless as to what to say. I also don’t want to seem desperate.

I was going to:

Ask when applicants would know

Reiterate how much I would like the internship

Ask about the placement process

Is it out of line to follow up? Are these questions okay?? Is phone or e-mail better?

Thanks for the help.

Call back in a couple days and just ask if they got everything, if they need anything else from you, etc. I learned that if you want to get the internship, you should always do a follow-up call.

I would not, however, ask when applicants would know, since their application date hasn’t even closed yet. Well good luck with that.

You should contact them. You shouldn’t worry about seeming “desperate”, especially with the current economic situation most people would be worred about finding jobs.
