Applied to Davis 2.94 gpa.. Comm major

Hi everyone. I've applied to Davis with a current GPA of 2.94 GPA, and majoring in Communication studies. I've been so anxious everyday, worrying about my chances of getting in. (i've also applied to Berkeley and Irvine) And Davis and Berkeley are the only colleges that I really really want to go to...

I'm just wondering if there are any students got accepted to Davis with a GPA below 3.0? Is it very possible? I have a lot of extracurricular; I filled in all my extracurricular activities. I joined clubs and had work experience. I worked part time last semester while taking 15 units. Will Davis take these experiences into consideration ? I also worked on my personal statement for 3 weeks. And I am Taiwanese, originally from Taiwan btw, I'm hoping that can possibly greater my chances.... I'm pretty confident that everything on my application looks good except for my GPA. I'm really praying right now that I will get accepted to Davis.

what do you guys think…?

What are your SAT scores? I would say based only on GPA you should have a backup school in mind. The EC’s you mention are okay, but none scream national level recognition or amazement to overlook that GPA.

^Transfers don’t need SAT scores.

Not very likely. You would struggle to get into UCR and Merced. Unless you have some awesome story.

Yeah I worked on my personal statement for three weeks straight. I revised it multiple times… And at the end I had different English instructors to proof read it (grammars and such). I poured my heart into it. I’m sure I showed how serious I really want to go their colleges. It’s not very likely to get in if they only see my GPA, which is not very high. =</p>

I wish you the best of luck! Why was your GPA so low? Would you even consider going to UCM or UCR?

How is your grade trend? If it is even slightly positive, I would say you have a decent chance as long as conn isnt impacted.

I do not believe a sub 3.0 will get you into Davis.

I do not want to go to Merced and I did not apply there either. I applied to UCR just to see if I will get in. I really want to go to Davis. I would probably stay another whole year at CC for Davis if I don’t get accepted this year…

I had a 2.9 in my first semester because I had a C in Stats. it’s true that at the time I didn’t work as hard and I didn’t know what I wanted to do either.
But then I raised it up to 3.1 in second semester, even though I had a C in Biology. I also took three classes during summer that I had a 3.1 gpa.
My third semester which is the time when I started working on my applications for the UCs. I took 16 units at the same time I worked at a part time job. I still went through all the application process and spent a lot of time on my personal statement though… I had two Cs: Economics and History. So that brought down my GPA to 2.94 :(

I believe Communication at Davis isn’t impacted as it doesn’t say so on ASSIST.org.
But it says,
“This major is selective and requires preparatory coursework for admission.”

"Transfer students must earn an overall transfer GPA of 2.80 or higher to be
competitive candidates for admission to this major. Candidates must complete
courses comparable to the following UC Davis courses with a GPA of at least 3.00
for the course group. It is recommended that candidates have a cumulative GPA
of at least 3.00 for courses in the group below that have been completed at the
time of application and through the transfer academic update filing period.
Courses must be taken for a letter grade, with no grade less than C:

Psychology 1;
Sociology 1;
Statistics 13

I don’t know, I heard some people got in with a 2.9 but i know it’s really rare :(.

anthony18214 thank you for the stats. That doesn’t look so bad… I am so scared. btw where can i find that ??

65 % chances of getting into UCD. That’s over half of the people who got in which isn’t that bad right… Is this from last year??
