Does anyone know how easy it is to transfer into Isenberg from Econ? My son really wants the business school but didn’t get in - he was accepted to Econ instead.
Exactly the same situation here.
Same here
Same there no happened to my son in 2014. He was able to get into Isenberg as a senior which is no easy task and is receiving 2 degrees, one in Econ the other in Sports Management
@mcr976 good to know. I have a daughter at UMass and one of her roommates was able to transfer into Isenberg as a junior (Hospitality major).
This doesn’t sound too promising
There are specific classes you have to take and do well in before you can get into the business majors/Isenberg as an internal transfer. You can see them here:
https://www.isenberg.umass.edu/programs/undergraduate/on-campus/admissions/current-umass-students/bba
So he can get into the major as soon as the start of his sophomore year, if he completes 3-4 of the classes listed, including calculus, and does well in them. Please note that he also has to attend one of the info sessions they mention - that’s mandatory, not optional.
Generally speaking, he’ll have a good shot if his overall college GPA is a 3.5/3.7 or higher; no shot at all if it’s lower than a 3.0. So no, this isn’t easy. But UMass does give preference to internal transfers over transfers from outside UMass Amherst, in terms of getting into the business major, so if he really wants Isenberg, his best option may be to go to UMass Amherst as another major, then transfer in.
@RoaringMice - Do you have any feedback on the Economics program at Umass Amherst? Also, do students who get accepted into the Undecided-Business Exploratory Track have a better chance of transferring into Isenberg then from any other major?
Based on various people I know the answer depends. As previous posts state gpa plays a big part. But I also think timing and acceptance any given year factor in. I know student that applied to transfer in from resource Econ with a gpa 3.5 that was never accepted into isenberg. Someone this year had a 3.5 after their 1st semester and was accepted. The student graduating from resource Econ this yr has job prospects had an internship so their experience has been good. The department was known for being heterodox, I think that is still the case
Thank you!
