Well, I'm not commenting on Mao as a dictator, I'm commenting on his literary work.

I've read reports from CCTV, and the chinese newspapers in US...all say the same things.

I love CCTV...all bajillion channels of it.

haha i get CCTV too, how do u guys feel about Taiwan?

well, I don't want to generalize so here are my personal experiences only.

All the Taiwanese I have met have looked down on me simply because I am a mainlander. Taiwan surged in the 90's but is now falling behind China. Thus, this snobbery seems a little awkward. I am sure there are many nice Taiwanese, however, I have not met them yet. The ones I know are cliqueish (sp?) condescending, and the epitome of the secretive Asian who will stab you in the back.

On the issue of Taiwan, the island, I think the land does belong to China. People can't simply land on an island during war and declare the territory another country. Should China go to war over it? If yes, only to anger the U.S.

Last thought...shouldn't we all just be Chinese? 50 years ago, there were no Taiwanese unless you were referring to the minorities there before the Nationalists. People need to remember their roots and unify. We all look the same and we pretty much speak the same language.

Please, no hate...once again, PERSONAL EXPERIENCE only...this is not ALL Taiwanese people.

Yeah Jill, I know exactly what you are talking about.

i agree with u hoa.....my friend told me it smells horrible there...lol it could be bias, or maybe it Taiwan really does stink

I am for One China...(sorry if I offend anyone). So many reasons, don't feel like typing. One Country, Two States policy...I am all for that.

Anyone here like SHE? They ***es me off. They did an interview for some Jap channel, and apparently, the interviewer asked them, "So, something something Chinese?" And they replied, "We're not Chinese, we TAIWANESE"...COME ON!?!?! (^$&%^$&^%&$^&%^

My family prolly suffered more than a lot of ppl under the Mao Regime...both sides of my family were landowners and educators...so...yea...I think if most of you prolly know what they did to landowners and educators back in the days of the Cultural rev...

Why doesn't china just let Taiwan go... I mean come on

I think Taiwanese have their pride. I may not agree with those who want independence but I see why they want it. Though I'm quite rubbed off when people say they're Taiwanese. I mean c'mon if they really wanted to argue, Taiwanese at most is a nationality. They're still chinese by race and ethnicity. So when my friend totally claims that he/she is not chinese, I get annoyed.

yea, im not chinese. but i definitley see where u guys are coming from. I kinda like Mao's policies regarding Taiwan, and how he kinda wanted to slap some sense into the Taiwanese. no offense to Taiwanese people.

Faux, I think that's an oversimplification of a problem that has escalated as time has passed. Now it's not necessarily an issue of the land itself...it's as fatcookie said, part of it is pride. The pride of both Taiwan and China.
Catch- I agree- One China

I was pretty suprised that they called Taiwan "Chinese Taipei" at the olympics.

OH comeon, my relatives all live there, altho they are for independence, i see nothing wrong with a little "cooperative building?" haha

hhaha, allll you guys applied to penn for the helluvit? funny.

nope... i'm a junior, i only applied to columbia yale mit cornell... but i will apply to penn next year

I just realized Penn is not Penn state. I feel kinda dumb!

loool........

"foreigners" tend to think like that mensa ;-)

i like taiwan.. =)

yeah, you're never sure how many ivies a person knows past "harvard" or "princeton"

yeah it seems like most (especially most Chinese people who only care about prestigious) don't know more beyond HYPMSC

They don't even consider things like financial aid, advising, school personalities..etc. They're just like if you go to Harvard, you're set.
