Applied to Penn for the heck of it

I download!!! I have this membership to a chinese website. They have every CD, Chinese or English, that ever hits the shelves in the past three or four or five years.

I'm so sad! I go away for a while and I miss the greatest Chinese conversation!
The funny thing is, I was at a New Year's Chinese Karaoke party...old school songs about good ole Chairman Mao...drunk parents...good times...

Man, Yo Yo Ma is coming to my area to play with Mobile Symphony Orchestra. I couldn't get tickets. I'm devastated. Please, feel sorry for me.

"I just applied to penn for the heck of it, I dont really expect to go there unless i don't get in to any other ivyes"

And Penn doesn't expect to admit you unless nobody else applies :)

kori, have you ever even seen an asian in person?

yo yo ma = awesome. i heard that when he came to our area a few years ago (maybe it was just last year), he got so into his performance that he literally fell out of the chair that he was sitting on. :-D

nah, i listened to him in shi men ting in taiwan... hes not that good at violin wang lee hom i mean

NOT VIOLIN!!! OMG...He's a freakin' singer now. He did play classical. NOT ANYMORE.

have any of you guys heard Lang Lang on the piano? he is just amazing. whenever i hear him, i am just in awe. i love his rach 3 and scriabins

Yes, Canada. I HAVE seen a real life Asian before. Inconcievable isn't it??!? =) Yo Yo Ma is going to be the father of my children. I will have musical prodigies, and the world will kneel before their very presence. Nah, just kidding. I love Ben Folds. No one around here has even heard of Ben Folds. Uncultured little peons!

i'm too cheap to buy the cds and i've been trying to find his recordings on the internet but so far, not luck. read some great reviews though. i worship itzhak perlman and david oistrakh, mainly because i play the violin.

summary of this thread:
look at my states --> azn pride --> azn music (karaoke, singers, etc) --> musicians and singers.

i wonder how long this thread can last. we're doing pretty well for going on random tangents.

I'd say that pretty much every question imaginable has been answered on the whole Penn page, so why not have diarrhea of the phalanges and go off on random tangents? It makes the day go by.

I am still upset that I was deferred, but I am learning how to deal with it. I can still do stuff to help my chances, but the decision is ultimately up to God.

Ok. Off on a tangent I go. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate shakespeare? Anaphoras, allusions, metaphors, personifications, periphrasis...I DON'T CARE!!!!! It's past 12:00 here, and I am working on this stickin' paper...I am...very frustrated.

i dislike shakespeare a lot too. i don't under what the frick he is writing unless it's on sparknotes. everything he writes seems obscure to me and idk how people understand it.

i have listened to ben folds he's ok, just curious, how many of u play classical instruments

VIOLIN! BOOYAH!! although i kinda wish i played cello also.

I fess up, I'm like a disgrace...because I used to play the flute, but then, I decided that I would rather use it as a shtick to hit a ball instead of actually playing it...I am instrumentally-retarded...the one in a million chinese kid that doesn't play any instruments.

yep violin... how good are you canadia?

::RANDOMLY JUMPS INTO YOUR CONVERSATION::

ben folds gave me a horrible impression first time i heard him cuz he went out of tune. that was nails on chalkboard for me.. hehe

::raises hand:: i play violin sigh even though i'm not amazing i still like it a lot. my mom's a piano teacher, so i played piano first. then she became unbearable and i switched to vln... the OTHER instrument nearly all asians have tried at some point =P

haha hey, jay chou was somewhere... up north of me... 12/26.. i know several ppl that went to his concert haha. including my huntsman friend! jay chou FIEND ^^

catch, that's funny. "i would rather use it as a shtick to hit a ball" i'm wondering if u actually did that.

ummmmmm... not very... i'm ok i guess. i'm starting on the mendelssohn e minor as soon as i get the music from china (i'm getting a whole bunch mailed here; they're cheap as hell). i'm in two outside orchs right now; a chamber orch in the main line with some connections to pyos and phila sinfonia. i also auditioned for delco/dcyo or whatever u wanna call it and i got in but i didn't want to go because i didn't think my audition was that great. i'm audition for pyos this coming year but i'll only join if they accept me into pyo, not pyao.

district orch in pa is very soon and idk which chair i'll sit.

are u in south jersy cujoe?

Catch 22- you are not the only Asian failure. I went through the violin, piano, flute, and oboe before I finally realized I sucked. The only thing I was remotely good at was counting and sight reading.
