Apply as a Freshman ->THEN apply as a Sophmore?

So...if you want to transfer into a new school as a Sophmore (more time to take the classes you want/more time to adjust socially) but your first semester GPA is good, but not as good as you expected it to be, should you hold off until applying for a transfer as a Junior?

Or would it be okay to apply now, and if I don't get in, try again in a year? The only problem is that I also applied to this school (George Washington U) as a high schooler and didn't get in, so if I get rejected this year as a transfer, and apply a third time they will either:

a) admire my tenacity
b) look at my prior record and just automatically throw my application in the trash
or
c) just not care that I've been rejected twice already and still look at my application like everyone else's.

I had a strong schedule at my current school, 17 hours, which showed both 3 classes geared toward my major, directly and indirectly, and common curriculum requirements our school had. But my GPA was only a 3.14. For this reason I am holding off on applying to Georgetown until next year, but I was just wondering if applying now would shoot myself in the foot.

GW takes a lot of transfers bc a lot of kids transfer out...go ahead and apply, its easier to get in as a transfer. what is your GPA first semester/what college are you attending?

Oh yeah, I did hear about that! That's reassuring...my high school GPA was around a 3.3, while my first semester GPA was the 3.14. However, I took many classes related to my major (Poli Sci/International Relations), both directly and indirectly, and I DID take 17 hours, so hopefully they'll take that in to consideration.

I go to Trinity University in San Antonio right now. It's a small private university that's actually pretty competitive and academically rigorous. I like it a lot here, one of the few reasons why I'm applying for a transfer is just b/c GWU has a strong IR/Poli Sci program.

okay, some thoughts:

a 3.14 will actually make GW a tough bet too, as that is barely a B average.

unless your GPA increases DRASTICALLY, you have virtually little chance at Georgetown next year either.

id say apply to GW this year, see if you can get lucky, otherwise, apply as a junior once your GPA is closer to a 3.5.

your tough schedule/clear interest in IR will help, give it a shot and best of luck.
