Would it even make a difference in whether i'd get accepted into the college?
I'd like to make the first few years of college as smooth as possible. I am interested in both majors

Many engineering students enter as “undecided” for their major. They usually one or two in mind but aren’t sure. Look for an engineering program that has good intro courses that help students choose their major. An example is Bucknell’s intro course: [ENGR100: Exploring Engineering || Bucknell University](http://www.bucknell.edu/x13745.xml)

It depends on the college as to whether the major you select affects how difficult it is to get admitted (if it does, then you would likely be admitted to the major if you are admitted, but changing major later likely requires an application and competitive admission process).

you’ll need to look at what the specific colleges you are interested at say. Some admit students without regard to major, some admit by college at the U (eg. Engineering, Letters & Science, Arts, etc) and some by major. It can even vary among colleges at the same U, as for example with the UC system.
