Apply as Latina or white?

I was wondering if it would increase my admissions chances if I applied as white or Latina. I heard that UT is making it harder for Latinos in general to get into UT. I am a first generation Brazilian and US citizen but I'm also full blown white. How could I use this to my advantage?

I would go for Latina if I were you. Since you are by definition Latina there really is no harm putting it in your application.

I don’t remember there being an option for Latino or Latina, so you should probably go non-hispanic white. I don’t know where you heard UT is making it harder for latinos, but that sounds absolutely absurd.

I thought they would make it easier for minorities.

You may also be able to have it work to your advantage that you are first generation. I would definitely work the Latino/a angle.

Latina.

UT does not care what you are if you are not in top 7-8% of your class. Other schools might.

If you can get away with not putting white or asian do it.

I would say if there’s an option for Latina/Latino, then put that… But if there’s only a Hispanic option, I would probably go with White, Non-Hispanic, unless you have an obvious Spanish or Mexican last name. Otherwise it could look a tad fishy, but I don’t think it’ll make much of a difference.

That’s a no-brainer choice: Latina

Latina

You get to chose race and ethnicity. For race, chose white. For ethnicity, chose Hispanic.
