Apply As Undecided or Comp Sci?

My son is being advised that he has a better chance to be admitted if he applies as Undecided rather than Comp Sci. What do you all think? Is it difficult to get into Comp Sci major say after his first full semester?

The ‘assumption’ is that it is more difficult to get in as CompSci rather than any other major, no one has conclusive proof of this. The reasoning is that CompSci is the only major for which, to change your major, requires a very difficult restriction of earning either
1- a B grade in csci-1200
2- a 3.0 average after csci-2200 including all csci courses taken upto that point.

With that said, it seems true that CompSci is probably harder to get accepted for, not sure though.
[HERE](http://profiles.asee.org/profiles/7242/screen/20?school_name=Rensselaer+Polytechnic+Institute)'s some interesting info.

A lot of people think it’s easier to apply undecided. But depending on his actual hs record, it can make it harder for adcoms to get an idea of his strengths, relative to his interests.

If you’re thinking he really isn’t competitively strong enough to get by stating a CS interest, I’m not sure what advantage undecided truly gives- if he’ll struggle with the prereqs to declare CS.

We don’t have enough info here.
