Apply Early or Regular?

I am currently a high school junior, and after multiple years of research I have decided that Stanford is my #1 school. I am African American and have a 4.0 unweighted gpa. I also have a lot of outstanding extra-curriculars. My guidance counselor said that I would be a fairly competitive applicant. I was wondering if it would be more advantageous to apply early or regular to Stanford. It is my #1, so I'd probably go there if I got in early. I'd like to know your opinions and knowledge of the Stanford admission process. Thanks.

Definitely apply early, since it’s your first choice. This year the admissions rate was about 12% for early and 7% for regular (I think.)
plus, if you get in you won’t have to submit any more applications.

I think that i was on the borderline, and I doubt that I would have been accepted regular.

Definitely apply early, if this is your #1 school. Not only is the admissions rate higher, you also have a second go around, if they end up deferring their decision to regular. Also, to allow you time to compare all your financial aid options, you still have until May 1 to accept if you’re admitted.

Our daughter applied early and was accepted. We were actually hoping for a deferral, as we fully expected her to be declined, due to her SAT and ACT scores being in the low end of the range and only one AP class offered at her school. Needless to say, we were all pleasantly surprised.

Best of luck to you!!

It doesn’t make a difference.

The percentage of admitted “early” applicants includes recruited athletes, legacy etc. Once you remove those people from the applicant pool, the acceptance rate is essentially the same.

Disagree. Go early if you feel confident and Stanford is your top choice. The smaller applicant pool will ensure you don’t get lost among 25,000 other kids. If you get rejected early, you will have been rejected regular anyway.

EDIT: By confident, I mean with respect to the completeness of your application

Definitely go early!!!
