I can't decide whether or not to apply early, do you think I have what it takes?

... Notre Dame is my top choice school. It's my dream school.

I'm a legacy, both of my parents went there.

SAT: 2190
Critical Reading: 700
Math: 740
Writing: 750 (essay: 12)

I have a 101.5 weighted average, 92.8 unweighted.

I take the most rigorous curriculum my school offers.

7/94 in my class. I go to a small catholic high school in New England

3 sport varsity athlete, captain of 2. state champs for skiing, individual state champ '10

... and I'd like to apply to some reach schools too, just to see if I'd get in. Where do you think I'd have a shot?

Double legacy, SAT around median, good class rank, leadership in ECs, I’d say go for it. Two tips would be to really craft a “hook” about what makes you you (is it skiing?) and retake the SAT- few more points could really boost you.

I think a hook could be my skiing, especially since I also volunteer with a program called NEHSA (New England Handicapped Sports Association). With the program I teach people with disabilities how to ski, I was thinking about writing my essay about that. Do you think that could make for an interesting essay?
I was also considering taking the SATs again since I’ve only taken them twice, and I’d really like to improve my math score.

Thank you for your input!

everything looks fine except for maybe volume of ec’s but you might have just not listed those … that is a fine essay topic, but you must avoid the “cheesy” language. It is a great activity and something that you should be proud of, but the point of the essay is not make the admissions counselor donate to the program … the essay is to show your leadership and charity through volunteering and any life lessons that you learn by doing the activity.

I’d say apply for EA. The worst that could happen is they’d defer you…I can’t imagine they’d deny a double legacy with stats like you right off the bat in EA.
