Apply ED to bowdoin or Carleton?

I am a current senior from a well-off town in NY outside of the city and am interested in applying to either Carleton or Bowdoin early. I was wondering what you thought my chances of getting into either ED

I am a white girl, both parents went to college
GPA: 3.9 (unweighted)
College level classes currently taking: AB Calc, Chem, Economics, Statisitcs, English
adv french
SATs: 2200 (700R 770M 720W)
ACT: 33
Extra curricular - playing musical instruments since i was in 2nd grade, run a weekly tutoring club, volunteer at an nature center, interest in veterinary medicine, some other community service activities

My essay has been receiving great reviews for the common app, and I have done overnights and interviews with both schools

You should have a decent shot at both, but I’d guess you’d have a little better shot at Carleton because of geographic diversity. Bowdoin will get a lot of greater NYC applications, not sure how many Carleton gets.

I’d say make sure you really want to go to the one you pick because there’s a very good chance you’ll get in without another chance at picking between the two. But as a backup, I think both have ED2.

^I second this, your odds are slightly higher at Carleton because of geographic diversity.

32 freshmen from New York (state) entering Carleton in 2010, 58 entering Bowdoin.

And now with the Common App mess, you have another reason to apply to Carleton ED: it’ll actually get through… since they have a part 1/part2 (common app) system - in fact, the most selective MN colleges have implemented this solution:

Carleton has 2 ED dates. Back when I was interested in Carleton, I was going to apply to my other first choice on the first ED date, and then Carleton on the second ED date. I figured that gave me the most chances overall.

On that note though, even if you applied RD, I think you would get in to Carleton. Carleton’s ACT range is 29-33. Your grades are high, everything else.

Which school do you like best? Apply to that one. If it is Bowdoin, then go with Bowdoin. Then if you do not get in to Bowdoin, then you can still apply to Carleton on the 2nd ED date. If it is Carleton, apply to Carleton. i am sure you will get in there anyway so no need to worry about a 2nd ED date.

The schools have similar profiles. Apply to the school you like the best – the school where if you get in you will have no second thought or doubts. If you have no preference then perhaps you shouldn’t apply ED to either one.
