Apply for ucsd winter quarter or wait to apply for UCLA?

Hello!
I'm contemplating applying for winter quarter 2010 for ucsd, but I dont know if i should stick around and apply for fall 2010 for UCLA. If i wait to apply to UCLA, id have to stay at home for winter, spring and summer quarters, which is a long time! Is it worth it to go to ucsd? My gpa is 3.7 right now, And I think i can raise it to a 3.8 by the end of spring quarter. major is Molecular Biology, average gpa for this major into UCLA is 3.62 What do you think I should do?!

thank you!

^ i did exactly that… could have applied last time around and perhaps gotten into UCSC / Riverside / i don’t know what else… instead, i waited til now…

this year was a little boring, being that i felt, in a sense, that i was just ‘killing time’…
then again, i handled / am handling my few classes, made a little money (spent a little more), took some good road trips, saw some good shows, met some new people, read more for leisure than ever before, and took up some new hobbies…

point being… while it’s possible to be constructive while you wait, essentially, you ARE waiting - and that’s exactly how it feels. the finish line is ever nearing and always far enough away that you’ll become tirelessly anxious at the thought of its delayed approach, which will happen more often than one would think bearable… that is, if you’re anything like me (neurotic, masochistic).

i’ll let you know if it was worth it in 9 - 17 days.

hmm if you had any other major i’d say to wait it out, but since UCSD has a pretty strong mol. bio division i’d say apply there

I’m in the same scenario, bored and tired of community college and anxious to get into the real thing. I have the option of jamming 10 units over summer to finish igetc and transfering to UCSD in the winter, or tough it out for another semester and try for LA and Berkley.

If you think about it, transfering in the winter you will still have an entire semester of “wait time” because winter quarter starts right when fall semester ends. So technically, by waiting to apply for Fall you’ll only have to wait through one additional semester (spring).

I’m thinking I might enjoy finishing all the major important stuff and having 2 semesters to relax, take light courseloads with interesting classes, work and save money, and just have some extra leisure time before transfering to UC and getting real serious about school.

We are in community college, tuition is cheap, eh theres no real rush right? They say life after college is hell anyways

I was in the same situation last year!
I signed the UCSD TAG to transfer for winter 2009 quarter but instead of applying, I decided to stay an extra semester at my CC so I could have a chance at UCLA (my dream school).
Honestly I do feel a little regretful because if I don’t get into UCLA, then I have to deal with the fact that I wasted a whole semester at my CC (which is complete TORTURE for me because I absolutely hate that place) instead of already being at UCSD.
I say tough it out at CC for that extra semester and apply to UCLA because you really do have a shot at getting in. One extra semester won’t kill you, just stay positive
Good luck!

so im losing hope for ucsd for fall 09…im thinking of applying for winter 2010…

i was just wondering if the winter app process is similar to the one we just submitted?

ps. i forgot to note that i qualified for TAG, this time i wont forget…lol…or maybe i can use that in an appeal?

To my knowledge UCSD admissions is planning to get rid of Winter applications and only accept fall applications.

daymm dat sux…will it take affect this year?

Yeah, That was what I heard.
