Apply to a specific major or school as a whole?

Do you apply to WASH U for a certain major or to the school as a whole.
If it is for a major then what is the easiest school to get into?

Most students are in art&sci so I’d assume artsci is the easiest to get into. As for major, I don’t think it matters. Most students in artsci start out as premed and a lot change their majors. WashU is really lenient with switching majors and understand a lot of students will switch so I doubt they base their application decisions on what major you choose

I think I just read that starting in the fall of 2017 (could be off on that but it’s recent), that Wash U wants freshmen to wait 1 semester before switching majors. And they also said that they are very ok with a student taking classes in other schools in the meantime. But I think they say this to calm the nerves of students because I think you probably won’t formally declare a major until after sophomore year or after 3 semesters any way.

It is true that you have to remain in your chosen school for at least one semester. Winky is right, though, that you can still take classes across schools during that semester. There’s a girl in my BME class that is in art Sci, technically. Just be careful about initially choosing art Sci and then transferring into engineering, as you will be required to take Writing 1 when you may not have had to in engineering. Your major is pretty irrelevant; just make sure it’s something you have shown interest in.

A lot of kids are undecided, but a lot have also already declared, which is something you can do the summer before freshman year. There’s really no pressure either way. And even if you have declared, it’s quite easy to switch out.
