I was wondering if anyone has been accepted into the Haas business program at Berkeley as a trasfer student. What were your statistics like? I was thinking of applying as a transfer student, but I know how selective they are and I think I would have a much better chance of getting in a regular econ major, or even political science. Please let me know which is better. THANKS.

if you are an international student...DON'T apply for econ major at Berkeley because they won't accept you no matter how good your stats are. (At least this is the case for this year) Couple of my friends have a near 4.0 and they were all rejected applying as Econ major, and I actually heard that it is their policy that they are not accepting ANY international students for econ major.

As for me, I got into Haas (luckily). I have a 3.94 when I applied and did a lot of ECs (student government, etc). But I actually think they don't really look at those because two of my friends also got in as a transfer. They have a 4.0 but nothing else, no honor courses, no ECs. So the GPA is really the most decisive factor for transferring to Haas I think.

Bump.........

Thanks for the help. Where did you transfer from Jun? I'm looking to transfer from UCSB after next year (I have completed my first year with around a 3.9). I was thinking I should just apply as a poli sci major rather than risking it with Haas. What do you think?

eanicich, let's put your situation this way. You should list your first major as business. The reason I say this is because the employment outlook for business majors at Berkeley is quite high. Secondly, the Hass is also highly regarded. You can put down political science as your second major. So if you do not get into to Haas, then at least you will also be considered for political science. I hope this make sense! =) Good Luck

Berkeley does not accept alternative majors...
but every other UC does

Choose poli sci if you want to get into CAL with a major you are not really interested in.

Choose business econ if you want to risk your chance of being denied admission to CAL, but at least you will be studying something that interests you.

I know many people who chose to major in poli sci (or lesser competitive majors) just so they can get into CAL. Do not make the same mistake.

I actually applied to Haas from a community college. =)

Choose math major. it is really easy to get into Cal.

any one here get into Haas? What were your statistics like? I think on their website it mentioned the average gpa for non-Berkeley transfer students was like 3.91 or something. What kind of ecs to prepare?

it's true that some students were admitted to haas without any ECs. But i also know people with 4.0 and lots ECs and still got rejected. so it's hard to say..

those w/ 4.0 that dont get in didnt have their major requirements complete.. or they totally screwed up their essay.

those w/ 4.0 that dont get in didnt have their major requirements complete.. or they totally screwed up their essay.

I don't know about that. cuz my friend had all of her pre reqs done but she was still rejected from haas.

I just think haas admission is really unpredictable sometimes

Do you think coming from another UC (in my case UCSB) and seeking a business major that no other UC offers, ie. Haas, would help me more than say say a similar community college candidate?

no.. UCs give CC transfer priority over other UC transfer

ur at a disadvantage coming from a UC

yeah that's what I have heard

My friend got accepted in Econ major. Her GPA is 3.92,studying at a community college. The chance is equal, I think.

No the chances aren't equal. They are both low. Econ acceptance rate is 22% and that for Haas is 8%. Both very difficult to get into, but Haas is much much harder...
