Apply to more than one of the Claremonts?

D is interested in CMC, Scripps and possibly Mudd. Any harm in applying to all three or will she be considered a more serious applicant if she submits an app to only one of the schools?

I asked the same question of my S's counselor. She said that it won't hurt at all - may help, as they will compete to get you.

I don't know if I believe it or not - but she does have ties to one of the colleges in question, so perhaps I should.

My S applied to 2 last year CMC and Pomona and got into both-apply to as many as you could see yourself at. It will not hurt you.

The admissions offices do not cross-check applicants at the Claremont schools. There is no harm in applying to more than one. But, there's a big difference between the atmosphere at CMC, Scripps and Mudd. If possible, visit.

It's very, very common for students at the 5Cs to have applied to more than one of the schools. I toured three and applied to two. As stated, there are huge differences in terms of GE requirements, student life, and general atmosphere of the three schools you listed. Visiting and talking to students would be very highly recommended. The schools are cooperative, and students at all schools have unique perspectives on their own school as well as on "outside opinions" of the other 4Cs, so it wouldn't even hurt to ask students about the other colleges (remembering that people do have personal biases, and to take things with a grain of salt).

That all aside, no--no harm in applying to multiple schools. On tours, it's standard to ask which of the other schools people are looking at, have toured, etc.

Later down the line, I have heard that transferring between the 5Cs is difficult, but I have no further info on that.

Thank you all.

Just apply to CMC.
