ive been emailing various places in search for internships, and so far have been either rejected or ignored (my credentials must suck lol). so im wondering if i should just say "screw this" and send out my resume and interest letter and all that stuff, to say, 20 or something intern opportunities. i actually thought of doing this earlier, but decided not to, as i thought it was rude. i dont want to have to say "i know i sent in my stuff a couple days ago, and you said O.K., but i changed my mind and i dont want to intern with you anymore."

problem is, summers closing in, so i dont think i have the luxury to apply to opportunity, wait a week, rejected/accepted. If rejected, apply to another opportunity, wait a week, reject/accepted, and on and on.

uh, can anyone with more experience than me offer some input?

(does it make any difference if i say im looking to intern at design firms/museums/art related positions?)

"problem is, summers closing in, so i dont think i have the luxury to apply to opportunity, wait a week, rejected/accepted. If rejected, apply to another opportunity, wait a week, reject/accepted, and on and on."

WOOOOOOW. you were seriously doing that? just wow... that's like the dumbest thing i've ever heard. (unless you're like top 10% kid from MIT or Harvard who can actually DO exercise such luxury....)

if you are talking about THIS summer...

tough luck whatever industry you're in.

and yes, you are "supposed" to apply to multiple internships at once from the start. no wonder you are having a hard time finding an internship. it's not being "rude." it's what you were expected to do from the start.

yeah, you should be applying to at least 10 places at a time. For full time jobs more like 20 or 30 places at a time. In the current market, you'll be lucky to get a single offer, unless you bring something extremely special to the table.

WOOOOOOW... glad to hear an opinion from someone who is obviously so experienced, wise, and polite as you xjis. I'm sorry that this is my first time trying to find internships, and that i dont completely know the process of how it works yet; which is why i am asking. please, xjis, enlighten me with more of your knowledge.

rex-craft7/ well, thanks for sarcasm. i didn't expect this kind of reaction so i will just be direct with you.

you did something very stupid and that's why you are screwed for this summer. grab some sense of reality and get over it.

if you actually wanted some advice for finding an internship this summer, you were supposed to ask for it during like January time-frame, not end of May.

great xjis, but honestly, i wasnt completely sure when the right time frame of looking for internships was either, so thanks for clearing that up by telling me around the january time-frame. i did not even mention the circumstances. my plan was to take summer classes instead of working/interning, but unfortunately, my school stopped offering a certain class this year without prior notice, which prompted me to change plans just this week. so yes, i understand this is last minute also. and look, i really do appreciate the advice, but the insulting was unnecessary.

hmm there might still be some positions open... sometimes people change their minds or say no... just keep looking around. i got an internship last year when i applied around April or May. there's nothing to feel rude about. if they have the right to say to you, you have just as much of a right to deny their internship. Definitely apply to more than one place at once, or you will just be frustrated from waiting for so long for one reply at a time. i might have applied to about 10 places at once last year, just sending out applications and resumes, and i only managed to get a few interviews. even though some say they'll meet you, they stop replying to you when you try to schedule. it's weird.
