Hello. I am currently a freshman at Emory looking to transfer next year. I would really like to transfer ASAP, but most other top tier schools do not take spring transfers. I was wondering if it would be a sensible idea to apply to the schools that accept spring transfers next October and then if those results aren’t good I would apply to all the other schools I like for Fall 2017. Does this seem like a good idea? Or should I just wait and apply to all schools for fall transfer. My top choice is Cornell, which does take spring transfers to Arts and Sciences. Thanks!
Really depends. I’m a freshman at Emory also that applied for fall transfer. The process of transferring is a hassle in itself. And also bothering professors twice in the same year didn’t seem appealing to me so personally I would just all do it in one big go. But thats just my opinion.
On the other hand, why are you thinking of applying to Cornell? Just wondering since you’re also from emory wanted to hear what you didn’t like about it.
I came to Emory to do chemistry, but switched to math. The math program isn’t very strong here and it is better at Cornell. I also have a lot of friends at Cornell and have been to parties there and other stuff and I feel like it is a better social fit too. Why did you apply to transfer?
Oh same here! Except I’m looking into more of statistics than math and aside from the QSS (barely any rigorous math) and Applied Mathematics & Statistics which has way too much math for my liking. Also I wanted to double it up with the Business school however it seemed impossible to do in four year since both require 64 credit hours.
I applied to Columbia, Northwestern cause of the statistics programs there.
May I ask how you articulated in your essay that the program at Emory is not strong enough for you? I have been having a hard time putting into words why the math program is weak.
Well for me, I talked about how there was no pure statistics major at Emory. But, aside from that I didn’t go further in depth.
I talked about the programs at other schools to show that I’m committed to their programs. This lets me not bash Emory but show at the same time why the math department at Emory doesnt fit my needs
