<p>I was planning on majoring in Communication but realized I couldn't start that till my junior year. I really want to do either Communication or Film (which is ALSO a closed major) and understand both are difficult majors to be accepted in. </p>
<p>What should I do? Should i apply undeclared and wait out my chances or should i apply as a history major (as an example) in case I don't make either of my desired majors?</p>
<p>What you apply as doesn't matter. Changing your major is a piece of cake. If you want to be communications, put that on your application and start taking the pre-req courses.</p>
<p>i think a lot of people apply undeclared. i noticed this at orientation when i asked people their majors...a LOT of them said undelared.</p>
<p>approximately 40% of UCLA freshmen enter undeclared. when you think about it, "undeclared" is then the most popular "major."</p>
<p>Applying undeclared won't hurt your chances. </p>
<p>And just a little advice if you wind up at UCLA and really, really wanna do Comm Studies: take as many of the pre-reqs before you petition for the major and do really, really well in them. Don't know how much you know about the major, but it's super impacted. Only 20 or 25 continuing students were admitted this year and about 80 transfers. So yeah. Just sayin. It's not as hard as Film and TV, but its also not easy to just simply declare in comm. If it's something you KNOW you want to do, and you do the work to prove this, you'll be ok. </p>

<p>I agree with what everyone else had said about applying undeclared. That's what I applied as. I mean, that can be read two ways: either you have no academic interests, or you have so many that you don't know what to pursue. And I think the rest of your application quickly helps the admissions office figure out which category you belong too.</p>
<p>I wonder how the academic caliber of pre-med/pre-law/engineering students compares with that of undeclared students at UCLA? :rolleyes:</p>
