Apply where?

Hi guys, sorry to ask yet another one of these :stuck_out_tongue:
I just wanted to know what kind of university would accept a student like me. I want to study a course in Biology/Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, in a reputable university, preferably where there are good theater and literary opportunities.
Gender: Male
Country: Indian
School type: Indian private school, non-International

SAT I (old): 1st attempt: 2260 (M:800, CR: 690, W: 770), 2nd attempt: 2170 (M:690, CR:800, W: 680), SuperScore: 2370
SAT II: Bio M: 800, Chem: 780, Maths 2: 800

Predicted scored: Will be around 93-95%

Rank: Our school doesn’t give one, but I’d say I’m in the top 10 of my grade.

Extracurricular: A few are
Chief Editor in school
Attended a leadership program in Japan
Performed about 4-5 plays in the last 4 years of high school
Participated (and won) a couple of literary and theater competitions
Participated in Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition

Social work: Not too much, taught a few children from an underprivileged school, worked with an NGO to test the water supply of a slum area to find contamination.
Financial aid: Will definitely need.

I’m going to be applying to Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Harvard, Cornell, MIT, etc. Where do you think I should apply early? I’m considering Yale or Princeton for early, since they both have a significant drop in admission rate between RD and EA and are need-blind when it comes to financial aid.

What are your safety and matches? There are alot of good universities out there that fit your criteria that aren’t considered ivy league schools / super top tier.

@17scotts Every time I do the matching process, the software removes most higher level schools based on my financial need. Besides, I don’t think the software is for International students. I’m applying mostly to need-blind schools, and also Cornell (since the TATA scholarship for Indian students)/ Do you think this is a smart strategy? I’ll also be applying to Canada which has slightly lower requirements (I think) than US universities, so I guess those are the safeties.

You face an uphill battle. All of the need blind for internationals schools are incredibly competitive. Although your scores are good your ECs are mediocre. It will be tough to get into the top schools.

The next tier of schools are need aware for internationals and here is where you stand a better chance.

That makes sense. Any advice as to where I could stand a good chance? I also need financial aid, since I wont be able to attend school in the US without aid. Would I stand at a disadvantage when it comes to need aware schools?

Yes you will stand at a disadvantage. Thousands of full pay kids from China, India and Korea would love to take your spot.

If you need financial aid your best bet is to apply to schools where your stats are > 75th percentile. The schools will be more flexible with financial aid if you get accepted. However you won’t qualify for any US government backed loans.

Have you considered schools like Howard? I know they take a lot of Nepalis each year. Note that Howard is a historically black university.

There are lots of schools like Howard who would love to have international students like you and may give you substantial aid.

That seems interesting, I’ll take a look. This list of EC’s isn’t complete. I’ll update it in a few hours, that might give a better idea

I am in 12 std. My school results are 9th-9.4, 10th-9.4, 11th 68.4% 12 - expected >90%

@cuber38, start your own thread- don’t hijack somebody elses!

@collegemom3717 , this was my first post. The discussions going on this thread were similar to my questions and thought that it will be of common use of students with similar scores. I was not aware that discussion threads are patented by the originator !!! Thanks mom, I will start another thread .

@collegemom3717, the hijacked thread has been released without any ransom !!!
