Applying 2 years after graduating HS...?

So, I graduated HS in '09 and attended UCI the following fall. Went in as a bio major with no clear direction and no goals... and basically wasted a whole year getting bad grades. Now, I've decided I want to go into nursing and I want to go to CSULA as a nursing major. My question is... how would I do that? The application deadline for fall '10 has already passed, so I will definitely jump on the application for fall '11. Would I have to apply as a transfer, or could I still use my HS grades/SAT scores? Btw, I did really well in HS: (3.7 GPA and 2050 SAT I scores)

thankssss =)

No you would use your GPA from UCI, so you would apply as a transfer student. Do you already take your nursing prerequisite classes?

Ohh no D; That is not good new for me… hahah

I don’t have any prereqs done yet… Can I just take them at a CC? And would my GPA from the CC average into my UCI GPA? Also, do you know how competitive it is for a transfer to get into nursing at CSULA… like GPA wise? B/c unfortunately my GPA is :frowning: :frowning: :(

All nursing programs in California are impacted, so it’s going to be competitive wherever you apply. I suggest you apply to other nursing programs so you have choices to fall back on.

Yes you can take prerequisites at CC, and they’ll transfer into your college GPA. Make sure you do well on them because they will help boost your overall GPA.

[School of Nursing - Admissions Information](http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/hhs/nursing/nurs_adm.php)
This is the list of classes you must complete before you can apply.

“All undergraduate nursing students must have completed the following prerequisites or their equivalents before taking their first nursing class:
BIOL 200A & 200B Human Anatomy & Physiology minimum 4 Sem/5Qtr Units each
CHEM 151 Fundamentals of Chemistry (inorganic chemistry) minimum 4 Sem/5 Qtr Units
ENGL 101 Composition minimum 3 Sem/4 Qtr Units
PSY 150 Introductory Psychology minimum 3 Sem/4 Qtr Units
Critical Thinking (PHIL 160 or PHIL 250 or POLS 155 or COMM 176) minimum 3 Sem/4 Qtr Units COMM 150 Public Speaking minimum 3 Sem/4 Qtr Units
MICRO 201, 202 Microbiology with lab minimum 4 Sem/6 Qtr Units
Sociology 201 and NTRS 250 or 317 (4 qtr units each) are prerequisites for the first quarter of Nursing but not for admission.”

Hmm I see… Which option do you think is easier/more efficient?

1) Taking 1 yr to complete prereqs at a CC and then applying -> start out as lower div
OR
2) Taking 2 yrs to get an AA at a CC for the “R.N. transfer program” -> start out as upper div

Thank you ^^ your information has been so useful!

I would say option A. Both options are competitive to get into though. CC have wait lists to get into their AA programs. I think you should just take those classes at a CC then transfer to a CSU. There are more career options with a BSN. Ir nursing is something you want to do, then go for it. If you’re unsure, maybe you should focus on getting your grades up at UCI with a different major if you’re given the chance. (:
