Applying again after acceptance

I was accepted into Grinnell this year, but because I didn’t get enough financial aid, couldn’t attend Grinnell this year. Will this affect my chances in anyway if I were to apply again next year?

Are you saying you would apply as a transfer? Or that you are taking a Gap year and would then reapply as a freshman? Did you tell Grinnell that you would need more financial aid in order to attend?

I’ll be taking a gap year. Yes, I did tell Grinnell that I’d need more financial aid, and they said since this year’s budgets have already been distributed, getting more financial aid this year would be impossible.

You have nothing to lose by reapplying with an explanation for why you were unable to accept the offer of admission last year. At worst, you will have had a great gap year experience that makes you a more attractive candidate, even if they can’t do better with the financial aid next year and decide to turn you down, anticipating that you won’t be able to attend. But in the meantime, you will have applied to other schools, with that great gap year experience, that gives you other hopefully better financed options. At best, you get more aid next year and have the 4 years at Grinnell that you wanted.
