hey guys, so I need some guidance. I'm applying as a transfer to USC (don't want to get into details as to why USC, why not other schools, etcetc), and basically I want to be a business major (so Marshall school of business) right. But the thing is, the 4 year institution i'm going to at the moment does not offer the minimum math requirement for marshall unless you've taken a certain prerequisite which wasn't available for me, and trust me, I like pull all sorts of strings, asked all professors, contacted guidance counselors at usc and alllll that regarding it and basically nothing can be done. math 118 (thats what the course is callled at usc but it has different names in other schools, like in my school its called 123), but yeah.

basically it is not possible for me at ALL to take it this year. and I am adamant on transferring this year so waiting until next year isn't an option. and neither is perhaps staying at a community college for winterbreak or summer break and doing the course because I am an international student who lives 20 hours away so this is the only time I can go back home and see my family which is crucial due to various personal reasons. ahhh so BASICALLLLYYYY the only option I have is to apply undeclared and take the courses required to become a business major at usc, ONCE i'm there (IFFFF by gods grace I get in that is).

SO BASICALLY,after all that rant and rambling, my main question is, IS IT DIFFICULT to apply to become a business major once you're at usc as an undeclared major? whats the process etc. is it a possible option for me? because that is the only major I want to pursue so yeah.

thank you! and sorry if I sound a bit.....edgy , idk hahaha, i've had a really rough couple of days and I'm sick :(

It’s not difficult to do once you’re undeclared but you should have a math course on your transcript to have a decent chance at transferring. You’ll have to take certain classes there and should have a 3.5+. If you can do that you’ll most likely get in

If you can’t get the course then that’s something that you’ll have to deal with. There’s a reason why some classes have prereqs and why engineering transfers take on average a year longer. If you can’t get the class it’s doubtful that USC will sympathize with you. Unless you’re applying as a first year transfer, you just declare. Why isn’t staying an additional year an option? Is it because you don’t want to? I can guarantee you that if it’s money USC isn’t exactly cheap.

pretty sure usc doesn’t allow you to transfer into the specialized schools (viterbi, marshall…) if you transfer in as a junior into the college of arts and sciences, which most likely includes undeclared. actually, now that I think about it, I’m not sure you can even apply as an undeclared junior transfer. either way your chances aren’t good, usc being a private school might be willing to make exceptions for certain cases but I wouldn’t count on it.

Can you take math over the summer? That might make you more competitive and help you meet the requirements. My D applied as a sociology major, was admitted as a transfer. She then switched to undeclared and ultimately applied to cinema, where she received her degree.

It’s tricky to apply as undeclared or arts and letters; what will you do if you don’t get in? Please weigh this carefully. If D hadn’t gotten into cinema, she had a few other majors she was considering as well.
