Applying as enginnering undeclared

I have heard some people saying that transitioning at JHU is difficult.
If I apply as enginnering undeclared, then does it put me on a disadvantage?
(I am most likely to take mechanical engineering or biomedical engineering, either way, i am going for pre-med then biomechanical engineering)

What do you mean by disadvantage?
If you mean admissions-wisw, Hopkins doesn’t admit by major unless you apply as a BME -BMEs need to be accepted by the school AND the BME department. However It is possibly to get rejected by BME but still get into hopkins (you just won’t be aa BME major). Post freshmen-admission BME major transfers are rare and are only approved if they have space and you do really well in your coursework.

If you mean coursework-wise, all engineers take (basically) the same classes freshmen year as they all need general chemistry, general physics, calc 1, 2, & 3, and Lin alg/diff eq (the exception to this rule is Computer scientists which is in the engineering school but doesn’t have as strict gen science requirements). Assuming you decide on a major by the end of freshmen year you won’t be at any disadvantage.
