Applying as Intl, to request aid or to not?

Hey CC members,

I'm a rising senior, I live in America, but I'm not a permanent resident. Because of this, the majority of colleges, except for HYP, will be need aware when I apply, basically they take my financial need into consideration. In addition, I talked to an admissions officer at an ivy, and he said that it basically comes down to financial aid for intl students, if you request finaid, you have a less shot,if you don't, your shot is better.

In my situation, I'm considering not applying for financial aid. My parents might be able to deal with no financial aid, but it would be tough, and worst case scenario, I'd hafta go back to Canada (where i was born/lived a good portion of my life). So I'm in the dilemma of applying for financial aid or not. At some of my safeties, I'll apply for finaid, but should I not apply for it at the higher schools? btw my targets are a few ivies, and other top tier schools.

Unless you know for a fact that your parents have ~200,000 available to write their check with no sweat, then do not apply for aid. If you need aid, then apply for it as at many schools as an international student if you do not apply for aid as an incoming freshman, you will not be eligible for aid in subsequent years.

Figure out if you are a top candidate from your Country. If you're not, you won't get aid.
