Applying/auditioning

Hello,
I heard that you can both audition for the mt program at u of m and separately, apply regularly. True???
What are some other schools where this is allowed?
THANKS!!!

Not true, as far as I know.

This was several years ago, but I know someone who applied (and auditioned separately) for both MT and drama, so unless things have changed, I don’t know why you wouldn’t be able to apply for MT, and also apply for a non-auditioned major. Check with the school.

Indiana University. You make application to I.U. listing whatever major you want (or “exploratory”), and are accepted or denied. You make a separate application to the Jacobs School of Music and are accepted or denied. If denied, you can still attend I.U. and go back and list/change to whatever major you want.

FYI the Mt dep’t at Indiana University is not housed in the Jacob School of Music but in the School of Liberal Arts so you apply to Indiana and contact the MT dep’t for an audition date and send in the materials they require. If you are admitted to the University but not the MT dep’t you will get invited to major in theater if you so choose. Check with each school that yo are interested in to see how dual applications are handled. (Indiana Alum)

I may be mistaken, but I think the OP is asking if you have to both apply to Michigan academically and then to the MT department (via application and audition.) If this is the question, the answer is YES: you must be cleared academically before you are given an audition.

Yes, you can definitely do this! Not sure about which other schools allow it, but U of M does and I think it’s great.
