Yay! So who is applying? I come from a highschool in which just about everyone goes to either FSU, UCF, or UF. Nobody knows about or applied to Davidson :)

Hey Wildcat applicants,

I just wanted to let you all know that I’m going to be deleting my CC account very soon. Hopefully another eager Davidson student will step up in my place and reply to your future posts! I’m considering applying to be an admissions fellow for my senior year and unfortunately many admissions offices (probably Davidson included) around the country frown on sites like College Confidential because they potentially do violate confidentiality with applicants and they try to distance themselves from them entirely. I want to have dropped my connection to CC at least a year in advance of that application process which may well be next fall for me.

I’m kind of sad that I have to do this. I’ve talked to almost a dozen freshmen and a few transfers here that said they made decisions at least partly based on my posts, and I’m always so happy to meet these students…but I suppose I can see the professional view, as well. Feel free to send me a Private Message in the next week if you have specific questions you wanna ask before I delete!

Good luck to everyone! I wish you all the best and I hope to see you here at Davidson next year or the year after!

All the best,
Alice

As a parent, I wish to thank you! My S and I have been reading your posts. I am curious though, only one person has posted they are applying. But it has been view by 141. No others have posted to applying 2014. Is that unusual?

You are very kind! I’ve enjoyed getting to know people here :)

Last fall, there were two to three times the number of posts in the Davidson discussion board. Personally, I attribute the decline to Stephen Curry’s leaving (not that Curry would be the deciding factor for most people, but that he really put us on the map and got our name out there) and the economy. Fewer people than usual got merit/need based aid from this current freshmen class and $40,000+ is a lot… In my opinion, it’s worth it, but most are getting better deals elsewhere. I hosted several girls last year who would have come here if they hadn’t gotten better aid elsewhere.

Another reason why this may be is that it’s still the fall. When decisions start coming in, there’ll be a decisions post and you’ll see forty or fifty people coming out of the woodwork with their decisions…people who’ve been reading the posts and questions, but not asking or replying to any, themselves. So, maybe it’s not so unusual…but all I can give is my own speculation.

Alice - You have given so much great advice here, and I think it has helped many potential applicants and their parents more than you’ll ever know. Thank you so much! Best of luck in your future plans. Someone as enthusiastic as you would be a terrific admissions fellow, so I hope you are selected.

amplifiar…your posts were always thoughtful and balanced and informative…just like the character of most Davidson staffers and students I might add from our experience. Thanks for the good hearted responses for inquiring students and parents and good luck to you.

Amp, my hat is off to you as well for all your helpful information. You took a lot
of time out of your days (and nights, I’m sure) as a freshman to respond to
every question with thoroughness and enthusiasm. My d is currently a freshman
at Davidson and, based on her experience so far, I can more than vouch for
your positive view of the school. I would encourage all potential applicants who
for whatever reason might be on the fence
to go ahead and apply - it’s an awesome place and you won’t look back if
get accepted and end up attending. My d is loving every minute of it so far.

Amp,
Like eiffel13 above, my freshman daughter is so happy with her decision to attend Davidson. Your posts last year were very helpful to her in getting an insider’s view to the academic, sports and social aspects of Davidson. Thank you so much for taking the time to promote the school and best wishes on your application to be an admissions fellow!

Thanks so much to everyone! I’m especially thrilled to hear about your daughters, eiffel and hobie! Always happy to hear these things!

It’s been a pleasure, everyone! If you’ve got any last minute questions, post or PM them ASAP – signing off on Wednesday!

Good luck to all applicants and families! Hope to see you all here someday soon :-)

So long and good luck! Thanks again for everything!
