Applying close to the deadline. Hurts Chances?

Yeah, I don't know if any of you will be able to answer; but I'm curious. Say the deadline is 1/1 and you apply on 12/31, will your chances be lowered?

lol, i was just going to post the same exact question..

I would like to think that they don't look at any applications until the day after the deadline (but I can be wrong).

Anyone know for sure?

Nah. :) I'm sure they get TONS of last minute applications.

Well Harvard for one said that they begin revewing applications by Dec. 1... so did another Ivy, I forgot which one (Princeton I think?)

no, MIT explicitly stated on their website that Date submitted makes no difference on the final decision. After all there are so many factors to that. Maybe you had everything done but your printer broke so you had to save up money to buy a new one in which it was the deadline once you got it to work...you get the point

They may start sorting out aps, but reviewing them doesn't take place till well after the 1/1 deadline.

There ARE a few schools that start to review applications that have come in before the deadline where they are NOT on rolling admissions...but only 5-10% and these are not your "top 50"...

Also would like to knowthe answer. DD still plans to send apps to at least 10 schools before Jan 1 (I wrote about her procrastinating couple weeks ago). So now she wonders whether to keep polishing all essays and short answers during holidays and send her best variants to all schools around Dec 30-31 or to try sening at least a few apps this weekend, less polished but not on the last day .

I don't think it hurts. It should hurt chances if it's rolling admissions.

I hope it doesn't hurt. All of mine will be last minute. But that's just my procrastination...it's like a disease. :)

I went to a Yale info session once, and the guy said that even though the deadline is the 31st, we should have our apps in by the first part of December. I don't know why, but he's the one reading apps from my area so I guess I should have listened!
