Right now I have 1 month left of summer and I am going to start major SAT/ACT prep for Sept/Oct tests!
I took a practice test recently and got 800m/630cr/800w so I think I might be able to break 2200/2300 with extensive practice.
How am I looking so far besides fail SAT score? I REALLY want to attend and major in economics..

You sound smart. Be interesting. Go write some ass kicking, heart wrenching, ball crushing essays :D.

Notes regarding the SAT: Chicago only considers the CR + Math portion, NOT the writing portion, which puts you at an 1260/1600 for the score Chicago actually considers. Work on your CR, as it seems to be your weak point. Any student who is capable of getting an 800 on the writing portion is also capable of getting an 800 on the critical reading portion; look at some practice materials.

In my professional opinion, 1260/1600 is a bit too low for comfort. Try to bring the score up to, if nothing else, the high 1300’s.

Up your SATs, and remember that getting into UC requires great essays, so work on your CommonApp and UC supplement essays. You can never have too many revisions! ;)

Definitely put a lot of thought, creativity, and effort into your essay because for Uchicago that’s what makes you stand out. They put a lot of emphasis on essays when admitting.

Wow, our scores are almost the same! My ACT is also kind of “eh” (30) even though I do really well on practice tests, I only have one 5 from AP testing, my SAT IIs are pretty legit (800 on math looks great!), and I also have a 3.91 UW GPA (school doesn’t weight…). Your high rank looks great too. Luckily UChicago isn’t as freakish about test scores as the Ivies.

Anyways onto some more productive comments… I’m not sure about your ECs. The awards you have are pretty good, but I don’t see anything in them that suggest you have a passion for econ (like being in DECA, joining/starting your school’s economics club, etc.). As you likely know, nearly every high-achieving high schooler in the nation who wants to major in economics likely has UChicago as their top choices due to the excellent program they have there. A lot of those kids are going to have awards and ECs that correspond to their passion. So, make sure to emphasize your passion in your essays and have your econ teacher write one of your recs.

Once you raise those SAT scores, I think it’s anybody’s guess. Excellent essays are imperative in your case, because you seem like you’re on the border. Best of luck!
