Ill keep it brief. I do not believe my scores are good enough for an OOS student trying to get into michigan. I took a practice test and improved, but I am still not where I need to be. Would it be better for me to wait till the December SAT and apply regular, or still apply early action. When an undergad admissions office representative visited my school he told me to apply early but I am still not sure.

It seems they usually defer those who are not accepted in EA. So it should be fine for you.

If you can finish your application up by Nov 1, you should definitely apply EA. If they don’t think your profile is competitive enough for EA, they will defer you for RD and you will have the chance to submit any extra materials (like an updated ACT test).

Good luck!

Thank you very much!

I have another question for those for are familiar with Michigan. If I improve on my third sat in all three facets, how will they use this one compared to others? Do they average the three out or just take the highest composite

kyleL22: I would clarify the Michigan info provided by Billcsho…I read it as incomplete apps or deadlines- not just anyone who isn’t accepted early. I believe you can still be denied and not deferred to regular decision.

Rejection during EA is technically possible, but it is extremely unlikely. My understanding is the only people they reject during EA are the applicants which are way below average, don’t have any reasonable chance at all in getting in, and are just applying for the heck of it. Out of the hundred or so applicants who have posted their acceptance/rejection decision on this site over the last couple of years, I don’t think even one of them have reported getting rejected in EA. Don’t worry about it.

Does anyone know what percentage of EA students are typically accepted?

If you don’t have the numbers, you’re wasting time getting everything in by next week. Hold off until all of your things are in order.

I got a 26 on my ACT for september and just took the october. Should I still apply EA?

If you have enough time to make sure your essays are strong, and you already have your teacher recommendations it is almost always preferable to apply early. If you retake the ACT and do better, you will be given the opportunity to submit it if you are deferred.

The only case where applying early would not be preferable is if you have to rush the application to get it in by the deadline, and it is obvious to the admission committee that you rushed it.

I’m sending my ACT scores tomorrow to UMich. I know that the scores have to be in by the deadline; so, how long do you think it will take to get to the school?

It would take 3 to 5 days typically for ACT, but may take longer for the school to file it.
