Applying early action without SAT II scores?

Hi, I am considering applying early action to either Yale or Princeton. However, I am going to retake the Physics subject test on November 2nd, so I won't receive my score until a few weeks later. From what I've read on their websites, it doesn't appear that either requires you to submit your subject test scores by November 1st, but they both advise you to. Also, I can't find anything that says when they would be due.

Would it be a safer bet to simply wait until regular decisions?

I think Princeton does require 2 subject tests and Yale requires 2 SAT2 if you submit SAT1 instead of ACT. You new scores may or may not be on time for their review though. Both schools said they will accept Nov subject test scores for EA, but you need to use the free score report or order the score before the test that they will be sent once available.

You are misconstruing a statement they make about EA. They advise you to complete all testing before Nov for EA but if you don’t, you still must submit two subject tests to be considered. They accept Nov test scores for EA as long as they arrive in time, which they will if you identify the college as one of your free sends in your test registration.

I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, I’ll try to clear this up.

I understand that the scores are still mandatory, but will it hurt my application that I won’t have the scores by November 1st, and if so, should I just wait to apply regular decision?

If I do apply early action, I will fill out the thing to automatically send the scores to Princeton, so they get them as soon as possible, since I know I won’t be retaking the test, so it is what it is. However, I am taking the ACT at the end of October, so do you think I should wait for all the scores and apply regular decision or just go for it and apply early?

Lastly, if I do apply early action and the final subject test score isn’t available is there something I have to do to make this clear on my application? I don’t want them to think I didn’t fulfill the requirements, and I’d like to make sure they get the score in time to consider it.

Last minute thought: I took the Physics test in June and got a 650, should I send this so they at least see the second score and then send the retake on top of it?

There is no reason to second guess admissions. If they say that the November test results are accepted then they would be, and you should assume that they will honor that statement with integrity.

Regarding your second question, that you want to review the ACT October scores before deciding on whether or not to take and/or send the November SAT scores, it is true that “poor” scores could lead to rejection in the EA/ED round. That said, EA/ED (especially ED) can give you an admission chance boost. When you are applying to very selective colleges, there is a lot to be said for being “confident” that you’ll do well on the SAT subject tests. I would recommend that you prepare to send them automatically in anticipation of that good result.

I don’t think it is necessary to mention that your November scores are “coming”. Your situation is not unique.

And finally I wouldn’t send that “650” physics score to Princeton/Yale. Study hard and strive for “750+” in November, or pick a different subject.

Thank you very much fogcity. That is very helpful and reassuring.
