Hi! Should I apply early action? I heard that it isn't always good especially if the school an individual is applying to isn't considered a safety school for them. Most people get deferred or waitlisted?

I plan on applying to Rutgers which would be considered low match for me. I am at little below average and it's because of my SAT scores.

Applying early action is a good idea because it reduces the pressure on you if you get in. Of course, it also means you can’t apply SCEA anywhere, but that may not be an issue depending on your list of schools. The only reason not to, that I can think of, is if you’re going to retake the SAT and want to use higher scores to apply.

Why would it be only a good decision if it’s a safety?

Bluechicken - I heard that if an individual applys early action to a school, they have a better chance to get in and will find out sooner about the school’s decision. I also want to get the process over with.

M’s Mom - Well early action for my #1 choice school (Rutgers) ends their early admissions on November 1. This means I can get my SAT scores (Oct 26) and send them out by the deadline. By then, I should have all of my documents in. I was reasearching online, and I read that they just skim through the applicants and accept those with high numbers. Most people then just get rejected or I guess deferred.

Early applicants are not skimmed through. They are read with as much attention as the applications of the regular round. If anything, Early applications would receive more attention as the adcoms would have less work to do in the early round given the smaller number of early apps.

Usually, a higher percentage of early applications are accepted than regular applications are.

Does it matter when I apply for early action? Would it be considered regular decision if I send it at the last minute? Rutgers early action date is November 1st and I won’t be able to send my new SAT scores until Oct 25th.

The deadline is the deadline, period. If you spend the entire day of the deadline writing your essay, and submit it on time, you are on time. Check what they say about scores. I believe credential are due 2 weeks after the application deadline.
