Do you think by applying early to Harvard your chances RD would be hurt at say Yale or Princeton? Would they even know you applied somewhere early?

I applied early to Harvard + got in. I told my Yale interviewer this when he asked where I had applied... and I still got into Yale (I also got a 45 minute lecture on why Yale is better than Harvard... but that's not the point).

Clearly this single case doesn't prove anything, but there are a large number of cross admits, and there's no official system by which universities exchange information on admits (like there is for law school, ex).

"I also got a 45 minute lecture on why Yale is better than Harvard... but that's not the point."

HA, what was his argument?

It wasn't a convincing one!

He was trying to distinguish the schools, saying Yale is more of an on campus, close knit school, while Harvard is more spread out because of Boston. I'm sure there was more... but it was a while ago, and I don't think I was paying too much attention!

But, can it be that was just cuz you were such a tempting candidate for every Ivy?
I still can't decide whether I should apply early or not..... I don't want this to hurt other schools' chances..

If you have a first choice, and you can get a great application in by the EA deadline, I'd say go for it! Throwing strategy out the window (because I don't think it's too important either way), it's great to know by December whether you're in or not!
