Stanford is my first choice school, and I was planning on applying early. However, because of Stanford's requirement of having teachers from 11th or 12th grade teaching core classes and being in different areas, my choice of teachers to ask from got elminated to two (long story), one of which I wasn't a diligent student in (slept sometimes, didn't do hw sometimes, but very good grades). However, my calculus teacher (this year) is willing to write me a rec IF i ask her at a later time when she knows me better. She's been known from our school to write very solid recs.

Should I apply early with possibly worse teacher recommendations but get the increased chance in early action, or should I wait for regular decision and send in stronger recs?

Also, by not applying early, Stanford won't know that they are my first choice. Is there any other way to let them know this? I was thinking about my calculus teacher explaining why I didn't apply early for the sake of a more informed recommendation. Would this suffice?
