applying "early" vs. "regular"

Just wondering

How much easier is it to get accepted if you apply the first day of school vs. late november/early october?

Is applying that early to michigan similiar in terms of acceptance "rates" as say, applying early decision?

Thanks

It depends. If you are clearly Michigan material (3.6 - 3.9 Michigan GPA, 27-30 on the ACT and or 1300-1400 on the original sections of the SAT) but not much better, then your chances are indeed better. However, if you are clearly better (4.0 student with 1500+ on the SAT, it doesn't really make a difference when you apply.

So if I fit the "lower" category (3.5-3.6 GPA, 35 ACT)

then applying as soon school starts will help me?

Yes, unless you intend on earning some huge honor or anything else that would significantly increase the strength of your app shortly into the school year. If you don't think anything on your app will really change first semester, then just apply as early as possible.

with that 35, i don't think it matters when you apply. you still have a good eough gpa for Umich to be a match
