applying "early"???

Okay, I've heard this big ole rumor that applying to schools "early" will boost your chances of getting in. And this doesn't mean applying ED or EA, but simply applying well before the deadline for regular decision. Is this true, or just silly? Don't they review all the applications at the same time (unless it's rolling admission or something)?

Either way, I applied to all my schools at the same time, although I finished the apps earlier. It just seemed more organized to do it at once. I sent my stuff in on the 26th of December for the January 1st deadline. Is this going to hurt me a lot? Or are people just crazy?

That's a bunch of bogus.

Only if the school has rolling admissions. The only thing that hurts you otherwise is missing a deadline.

At some schools the whole admissions department is on holiday until the 3rd so it won't matter at all.

yep, at most schools

Applying early just shows your interest in them, and supposedly makes it less competitive for you to get in, but I find that hard to believe.

If the school isn't rolling, they won't even think about looking at your app until after the deadline. At that point, everything has been taken out of envelopes and put together in files with your transcript, test scores, etc that were sent separately. Any postmark/evidence of when you sent your stuff in is gone. They don't care.
