Applying Early?

Does applying early help in RD? or does that only apply to rolling admissions?
Becuase I am applying ED to Cornell, but I have some safety/reach schools I'd like to apply to in case I don't get into ED. Should i start applying to these others schools in early december, or does not not matter as long as you meet the deadline?

I know many people say it doesn't matter, but I would say apply in early December, before the deadline. Why? Because suppose your computer goes down on December 31. Or the school's or Common App's server is overloaded on January 1. Or you discover you're missing something. All of these things have happened (and have been the subject of numerous panicked threads on this board). Finishing your apps in early December gives you time to deal with anything that comes up.

You also don't want to wait until you hear from Cornell. While everyone hopes that you will get into Cornell ED, what if you don't? Do you really want to be working on other apps while recovering from disappointment? That doesn't make for particularly strong applications.

My suggestion is to apply ED to Cornell, and then forget about Cornell. Finish your applications in early to mid December as if you didn't apply ED anywhere. If you don't want to pay the application fees, fine; just leave the finished applications in your pocket so that all you have to do if you get disappointing results is enter a credit card and push a button. But have them done and ready to go.

Good luck to you!

When the application for the college I want to apply for comes out in August, I'm applying right there and then. I want to get everything done early so I do have to worry about it. The other two schools I'm applying to, I'll proably do those in January.

Basically, I agree with what Chedva said.

i wouldn't worry about applying elsewhere. cornell ED is pretty much a done deal. good luck.

thank you guys for the advice!

Thanks for the advice chedva.

Thanks Chedva, I'm applying to Cornell ED and I'm just going to do all the essays for every college I would apply to RD if I got deferred/rejected ED at Cornell.
I hate writing trillions of essays!!
