Hey everyone. I'm applying ED Cornell this fall, and I wanted to know what the required SAT II's are for CALS. The thing is that im taking SAT II US History and Biology next week, but the site says CALS requires you to take a math one, which i cant take in June, cus of SAT. Is math really required? What if i submit Bio and American as my two required SAT IIs? Or do i really need the math?

I don't remember there being a required math SATII for CALS. In fact, I don't remember SATII's being a requirement at all. It said (last year anyway) that they recommend writing, a math, and one other, but none were required. Some schools at cornell do require SATII's, but I don't think CALS is one of them.

I am also applying ED, but to Human Ecology... For CALS, they suggest 3...
"SAT II recommended in Writing, in a science, and in Math (any level)"

So its only a recommendation, but nothing is required. The site says the same thing this year: writing, math and science. But, since the new sat is not in effect, its 2 SAT II's, one of which is math. I guess its just a recommendation.

Blackferrari, you're a junior?

Yes, I am... I am planning on applying ED this summer/fall. Aren't you pumped? I am so excited, and so nervous......

I am sooo pumped!!! i love cornell!!! but im really nervous. If i dont get in, ill commit suicide, lol.

when something is "recommended" they literally mean TAKE IT. you weaken your application if you did not do something that was recommended. there are applicants who not only meet the recommendations, but also EXCEED it, and that tells adcoms a lot. so unless it is a financial issue that you cannot take whatever is recommended, or another big issue, it is highly recommended to fulfill the recommended things. i hope that wasn't too confusing

Well, ye, thats wat i was assuming, that since they say it, then its almost a must. And yes, i already do exceed their recommendations, but not with the SAT II. There may be a timing issue which may impair that. I still have to work that out. I dont think i would want to take Math SAT II in November since im applying ED. I do NOT want to risk anything. I may need to contact the college.

Why don't you take the Math SAT II along with your Biology and Am. History? You can take three SAT II's in one sitting right? Or has that changed with the new SAT I's? It might cost you more to register so late for this last SAT II, but I'd say it's worth a shot, since you don't seem to have enough time to take it later.

You should contact the SAT guys too, and see about adding the math. I always thought you could add exams on the day of the test too (except for language exams w/ listening), but maybe it was that you could only swap one exam for another? Anyways, talking to a guidance counselor or calling Collegeboard would be a good idea.

you can swap, except aural languages, i think, but you cant add.
A recommendation is in all practicality, a requirement

OK, im not taking 3 tests in one day. Thats proven to lower scores. I am thinking of November for Math. Considering ED, do u think thats ok? Will that get there in time? Will it jeopardize any chances?

November SAT II's should be fine, the only problem is that you have to send them to colleges immediately (i.e. fill in the form day of test), so you get scores when your colleges do, and you don't get a chance to make them any better.

I see what you're saying w/ the 3 tests in one day thing, but the benefit of doing it this way is that you still have a chance to retake any of these SAT II's in November (or you have it open to retake the SAT's in case you don't do well on those the first time.)
