Applying ED ROUND I

So, guys, the big deadline is Monday.

I just sent in (electronically) my application, a lot of weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

I'm just curious how everyone is feeling about this. I have a lot of mixed feelings...relieved a lot of stress, but added a lot of nervousness.

Thoughts?

I'm just a mom whose son went thru this last year. Though he tried to look calm and cool about it, he admits he was going nuts inside!!!!

My thoughts? Good luck!!!!!!

I found out my decision from Tufts on Friday the 13th. It was the luckiest day of my life.

The main thing I'm hoping for right now is that my November SAT Is are an improvement. I have a 1380 right now and the mean of last year for engineering is 1421, so I'm hoping mid-1400s.

I have a concern regarding the financial aid from the school. My daughter visited the school and is really keen on attending this school. She has reasonable good stats - 1510 SAT1, 770 writing, 690 Math 11C, 700 Chemistry and is in the top 4% of her class with a bunch of ECs. She is specifically interested in the Early acceptance BS/MD program. So she would like to apply ED1. My concern is that she has a fair chance for getting in a state school with a full ride and she would never know that if she gets in TUFTs via ED1. Unfortunately we would not qualify for any federal or state grants. Please could anyone tell me how generous the university grants are?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

It depends on the financial situation of your family. If you are well off, then there would be almost no financial aid, creating quite a burden. However, if your family does not make much, Tufts is committed to meeting your financial needs. We are not a need blind institution, but once Tufts accepts you, we are committed to providing you with a package that is enough to get you through. Again, it's something to think over. A full scholarship at a state university's honor college is nothing to pass up easily either. You should call the admissions office if you need more information - they'd be happy to help you.

Hey JDot - I applied a few weeks ago and am anxiously awaiting the answer! Good luck!
Snoflake - I'm totally wondering the same thing. My fam doesn't qualify for need-based aid either, but Tufts is way too expensive for anyone to pay out of pocket, even if on paper you have it. What I've gleaned from them is that their non-need based aid is not so hot, and learning from my sister's experience, even though a college says they will provide you with the money to pay for school, its not always that easy (or true!

Tufts uses the CSS and meets all aid. So, if you can fill out the CSS, it'll give you a good idea of what you'll be expected to shell out.

If I'm not mistaken, you can apply to the BS/MD programme sometime during sophomore year as well. Check into that.

Not to steal this thread, but Aries, if one applies to the BS/MD program, must one have completed certain classes by the end of sophomore year, e.g. organic chem?

Hum... eek! I am really not sure about that - but I'll try to look it up for you.

Hope you are doing well. :) Happy Thanksgiving - and I'm sure that JJ will be happy to be home!
