Applying ED to a Dual Program

So say that I wanted to apply to one of the dual programs, like Huntsman. The website says that it is recommended for students to apply ED if they are sure that its their top choice. Assume that it is. If I, or anyone for that matter, were to be rejected from the program, but then accepted into whichever single school was selected, is that decision bound by ED? Or is the single school acceptance RD?

If the single school decision is still ED, what are the chances of being accepted into a dual program RD? Are you even able to do so?

Thanks.

On your application, you specify whether you want to be considered for the single-school backup ED or RD. It’s your choice.

As the great 45 Percenter has said, you can choose to commit yourself to ED for your single school backup. Having gone through the process myself and talking to other applicants, EDing to the single school has no impact on your admission to the dual-degree (for reference, I was accepted into LSM ED, but I chose not to be bound to my backup school).

Thank you both! I’m quite relieved to know that I have a RD option for the backup haha.

^ That should cure your malaise. :p

:o

I agree, if you apply ED to Huntsman you can make your secondary choice “ED specific college within UPenn”, or “regular admission for a specific college within UPenn” (or “nothing” I suppose if you want to apply to Huntsman only). Your choice depending on which box you check on the application.

Our DS applied ED for Huntsman, with a second choice of ED for Wharton. Got into Huntsman!

so if you apply to a dual degree program, do you still have to answer the short answer about which school your choosing and why, or just the dual degree program prompt, or both? seems repetitive to answer both… especially if your applying to the dual degree and not just one undergrad school

^For the short answer, answer it as if you were applying to the backup school only (e.g. If you’re applying to M&T with SEAS as your backup, write the short answer about why you want to attend SEAS).
