Applying ED to highly competitive colleges?

Hiya,
I don't have to worry about sending in APPs this year but nonetheless I'd like to know as much as I can. To start, do you think applying EDI really helps a person's chances? I'd like to apply ED to middlebury (its been my dream school since I was probably 10 or so). My GPA and scores are generally pretty good (I wouldn't think good enough to apply regular), I've got nice EC (4+ years of weekly volunteering, sports, clubs, and the like)

Anyhow, not even based on my specifics I've given, would you say applying ED really helps a fairly well rounded student applying to a reach school?

Yes.

Not sure how much it helps for non-ivies, but i think among ivies it’s the same as getting like a 100-150 point boost on your SAT.

Depends on a school. Can you give us your GPA/SAT or ACT score/Ecs?

It does help. I don’t know how Middlebury is, but Duke has an RD aceptance rate of 10% and an ED acceptance rate of 30%. This is not due to better qualified applicants, it is because they know you will matriculate to their school, so if you are qualified they will accept you. But only apply ED if you are absolutely sure that it is your number 1 choice. It may have been your dream since age 10, but make sure it is a good atmosphere, they are strong in your potential major, and all of that stuff. Then after seriously looking into it and it is still a CLEAR CUT NUMBER 1 (I can’t emphasize that enough), then apply ED because it will likely significantly improve your chances.

I haven’t gotten them back yet! Thanks for the answer though

I have looked at the school in person before and it fits almost perfectly what I want (majors, setting, state, no greek life, etc.) Thanks for the stats
